Warrented EP. 13: Blythe Scokin
This episode is a long time coming. I couldn’t be more excited to have Blythe Scokin, manager and co-founder of rogue. on this episode.
Blythe has had quite the year - managing 3x Grammy nominee Ingrid Andress and launching a new company with John Geraghty, rogue. What she and her team have accomplished in a few years is incredible.
Blythe and I met a few years back after a mutual friend introduced us. I had just started in the music industry and Blythe was kind enough to meet for a few coffees.
When we first sat down for coffee, Blythe had just left Friends at Work to start her own management company, bluejacket. She had a vision for the way she wanted her company ran and what kind of artists she wanted to partner with. One of the most impressive and brave things to me is that Blythe made this move without an artist.
Most people wait until they have found the perfect artist to break off by themselves, but Blythe made the go ahead decision and it paid off.
Not long after her decision to leave Friends at Work, Blythe had a meeting with an agent who recommended she meet with Ingrid Andress.
From there, an incredible partnership was born.
In a time when country music is dominated by males, Blythe wanted an artist that could change it.
“I’ve got to find an artist who can change country music. And I don’t mean change it like what it stands for… But I mean somebody who can come in and have an opinion and stand up for themselves and for other people. Who has great fucking music and art and isn’t just there to look good and sing a song but there is something to say,” Blythe talks about on this episode.
Blythe has been called “the driving force” behind Ingrid’s success.
This past year, Ingrid released her debut album and has taken the country world by storm. In 2020, Ingrid was nominated for CMA, ACM, and CMT Music Awards while also landing three Grammy nominations. She received her first No. 1 single “More Hearts Than Mine,” while her next single “Lady Like” continues to climb the charts.
We dive into Blythe’s ability to find and work with artists who are unapologetically themselves - consistently standing up for what they believe in and releasing music that speaks.
Blythe talks more on the importance of asking questions and going after what you want.
Blythe was actually one of the first people I told about this podcast idea - in the very early stages when I wasn’t sure I could pull it off. Blythe has been nothing but supportive and encouraging and for that I am so thankful.
This episode was one of my favorites.
Thanks again for taking the time to listen and don’t forget to check out Ingrid Andress’ site here.
