The Why? - Entrepreneurship
Welcome to the first post in the Entrepreneurship section!
You’re probably looking at the image above completely confused, or maybe you completely understand what’s happening. It is entrepreneurship right?
My talented friend Suz created this illustration and nailed it. (Link below to her site)
At first, we struggled to decide what kind of artwork I wanted to represent this. She asked me, “Ok, you’re 24-years-old. Describe what 24 has been like for you.”
This exercise blew me away.
I sat back thinking about what 24 has been.
The good and the bad.
The laughs. The doubts. The “What in the world am I doing” thought.
“You know that scene in the movie Dodgeball? Where the older guy throws wrenches at the guys and they have to dodge them.” I said smiling sipping my coffee. “A little like that, but fun.”
“Things are coming from every angle and you just have to dodge, adjust, do your best and hope you’re doing the right thing,” I explained.
Hence, the artwork. I’m sitting at my desk, in my thinking position (head down, hair up) with papers everywhere and things coming from all directions.
I’m a 24-year-old trying to figure out life after college and attempt this whole entrepreneurship thing. I created this section to post written articles based on lessons and experiences I have had in the past year.
I graduated with a journalism and entrepreneurship degree from Belmont University and I currently run a music publisher company called Plaid Flag Music. At nights, I also work on three start-up companies: one in the wellness industry, one in the infant and toy industry, and another in the music industry. When all of these are closer to launching, I will share more information.
I don’t know what it is about the idea of creating something, but it’s addicting to me and so exhilarating. I can’t imagine doing anything else and I can’t imagine doing just one thing.
Just like most entrepreneurs, we don’t always know what to do or even what we are doing - whether we want to admit it or not.
It’s the whole “Fake it till we make it” thing. (Post coming later in the year on that)
It took multiple frustrated nights and long, late night calls with friends/coworkers to realize most people are in the same boat, just to afraid to admit it.
Meditating, reading, and writing have been one of the best exercises for me this past year and the late night writes is where a large amount of posts you’ll see in this section. These articles cover lessons and experiences in the past year and current.
So here I am taking a leap and being vulnerable.
I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know what I’m doing launching this website. I just knew if I didn't do it now, I would never do it. I’m ready to have some fun with it.
So here it goes and thanks for everyone who has been so incredibly supportive and I hope this helps not only me, but others too.
